Since VEP's are OBJECTIVE it can be used to determine if vision is normal in cases of those who cannot give reliable results such as young kids or the more severely disabled and autistic. It is also useful to confirm loss in those who suffer from learning disabilities or those who have suffered head injury. Since VEP's give a numeric value, we can use this as a benchmark to confirm if therapy has been effective. This is especially useful for those undergoing Amblyopia treatment for reduced vision as well as learning disabilities since visual acuity alone may not be an adequate measurement.
